Austin and craft beer go hand in hand. With so many options it can be hard to decide on your next brewery stop. I checked out five East Austin breweries and ranked them 1-5. Any of these spots would make a great choice next time you’d like to enjoy a cold one.
1. Central Machine Works

Central Machine Works beer hall is the largest on this list. It’s one of Austin’s favorites for a reason. It’s large patio seating that has a variety of food trucks is a great place to enjoy the sun while grabbing a bite. The house mosaic IPA is a popular refreshment with a distinctive taste. It has a large industrial interior with a modern decor which makes for a genuinely artistic space to enjoy a drink. It has a variety of couches and indoor plants that stray from conventional brewery aesthetics.
2. Lazarus Brewing company

Lazarus Brewing company has a trendy atmosphere that makes for a great space to hang out with friends. Outside is covered in art-filled blue walls which make for a great photo background. Its patio is between two indoor seating areas making for a unique setup. If you’re looking for a great nightspot, its outdoor hanging twinkle lights create a pleasant ambiance.
3. Zilker Brewing Company and Taproom

Zilker Brewing Company and Taproom has the ideal downtown patio. It’s at a great location where you can check out some of Austin’s best eating spots and shops nearby. The parks and rec is a great citrus pale option that any bright beer lover can appreciate. You can also check out their collaboration with Spicy Boys the Icy Boys. It’s a light lager refreshing dry option. Its spacious setting and murals embody Austin’s vibes perfectly. It has plenty of art, and its indoor seating is a nice relaxing area. The variety of food options also makes it an excellent place to grab a bite while enjoying some craft beer.
4. Blue Owl Brewing
2400 E. Cesar Chavez @blueowlbrewing
Blue Owl Brewing is nice for anyone who wants to stray from downtown Austin but still get an Austin vibe. Its outdoor patio is a cool way to get a unique view of murals. Its interior features some fun public art that is sure to make for great pictures. It’s smaller and laid back if you’re looking to keep it more low-key. Blue owl brewing has its own in-house brewery where they make the infamous Blue Owl sour beer.
5. Friends & Allies
979 Springdale Rd. #124 @friendsandalliesbrewing
This blue brewery has some interesting architecture that’s sure to grab anyone’s attention. Its restaurant-style interior and indoor seating allow for a more casual ambiance. Its location also makes it more secluded allowing you to avoid large crowds and not deal with downtown parking.
